The crucial role of LWIR cameras in defense operations

Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) cameras are indispensable in defense, offering the ability to detect heat rather than visible light. This makes them highly effective in complete darkness, through camouflage, or in challenging weather conditions.

Nedinsco integrates LWIR sensors, such as those in the OTUS Camera family, for Driver Vision Enhancement and uses them in gunners’ and commanders’ systems for advanced surveillance and reconnaissance. LWIR cameras detect heat signatures, allowing operators to identify individuals, vehicles, and other targets even when obscured.

Additionally, LWIR technology enhances targeting and guidance systems, ensuring precise target acquisition and tracking for guided munitions and missile systems. Their integration into Active Protection Systems enables threat detection and countermeasures while minimizing misidentification, ensuring accuracy in complex environments.

Integration with multi-spectral imaging systems

To improve performance, Nedinsco’s LWIR cameras can be integrated with other imaging technologies, such as visible and short-wave infrared (SWIR) cameras, creating advanced multispectral systems. This integration enables comprehensive imaging across the electromagnetic spectrum and provides a clearer and more comprehensive picture of the operational environment. Overlaying thermal data with visible light images (fusion) improves detail and accuracy, enabling better real-time decision making. Nedinsco offers fusion modes such as enhanced fusion, where only relevant thermal signatures are highlighted, and edge fusion, where thermal signatures are outlined for improved object and human recognition.
